GrowingGreat Nutrition and Garden Program at Willow Creek Academy
In Marin City, CA The Willow Creek Academy program is up and running. All the K-8 students participated in the fall planting of the garden in October. Since then, every Thursday is garden day at Willow Creek, with different classes coming out to work or do lessons in the garden each week. Amelia Corbett-Green, GrowingGreat's Americorp staff member serving as garden manager, oversees the student activities in the garden. Also, four eighth graders from Marin Country Day School spend one day a month working in the garden and with students as part of their year-long community service learning project.
This past month we started the Classroom Cooking program. Our teaching intern, Kelly Browning, cooks with a different class each week on Thursday mornings. Over the course of the year, all classes will have 2-3 special cooking lessons with Kelly.
Finally, the nutrition program for all grades will be starting in January.Story Written by:
