Garden Party - Central Payment
Martin Luther King Jr. Academy Middle School, was happy to host Central Payment of San Rafael for a special “Garden Party” on April 20 in honor of Earth Day.
Central Payment donated $10,000 to the Milagro Foundation for the Sausalito Marin City School District to support its GrowingGreat Marin City/Sausalito nutrition education and community food access programs. Led by Managing Partner, Matt Hyman, fifteen fantastic Central Payment employees braved light rain and spent the day planting 8 new fruit trees in MLK Academy’s orchard. They also did a spring cleaning of the entire garden, pulling out the weeds that threatened to take over the garden after the winter rains. The trees were donated by Dave Wilson Nursery of Modesto, whose owner, Robert Woolley, came to help get the trees planted properly.
The students will study the fascinating process of grafting trees as part of their plant science unit. The trees were planted in half oak barrels donated by Cline Cellars of Sonoma. The students look forward to enjoying delicious fruit fresh from their orchard in the years to come. Thank you to Central Payment, Dave Wilson Nursery and Cline Cellars for their generous donations!
